Two face fugitive from justice charge in separate cases
During a vehicle stop on Route 15 in South Williamsport about 4:50 p.m. Friday, Alrashawn Jones, 25, "a guest" at 649 Walnut St., formerly of the 1500 block of Northway Road, was taken into custody on a warrant filed by Northwest Regional police in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, according to county records. The warrant was for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, police said. Following his arraignment before District Judge Christian Frey on a charge of fugitive from justice, Jones was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $95,000 bail.
In another case, Shariff Jenkins, 42, who is homeless, was arrested on the same offense and jailed following his arraignment April 23 before District Judge William Solomon after he was involved in a minor harassment incident in the 300 block of Campbell Street, city police said in an affidavit. While police were investigating Jenkins, they learned he was wanted by law enforcement in New Castle County, Delaware, on a felony charge of aggravated assault. During his arraignment, police told Solomon that Jenkins was "a flight risk," and had "a lengthy history of violent behavior," court records stated. Delaware authorities told city police they would extradite Jenkins to face the charges. Jenkins claimed that his criminal records "had been expunged." He has been jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.
City man charged with flight to avoid apprehension
It was four days before Christmas and fugitive Cameron Belle, 63, was determined not to spend the holidays in jail, so when sheriff deputies arrived at his home at 951 Second St. on Dec. 21, he bolted out a second-floor window and attempted to conceal himself by lying on his back on the roof, according to an affidavit filed at Frey's office. There was a bench warrant for his arrest stemming from a drug charge. Deputies and county detectives had to forcibly remove Belle from the roof, the affidavit stated. He was placed in the county prison on the warrant, but later released. However, Belle is now back in prison on yet another bench warrant that was filed after he failed to appear for his preliminary hearing on a misdemeanor charge of flight to avoid apprehension, filed by a county detective and stemming from the incident on Dec. 21. Regarding bench warrants, defendants automatically go to jail. Bail is not an issue.
Two charged with felony shoplifting in separate cases
Mark Delong, 41, of 2021 E. Third St., has been jailed on a felony shoplifting charge after he stole three pairs of shoes from Kohl's, 251 William St., on March 15, city police alleged in an affidavit. Following his recent arraignment, Delong was jailed in lieu of bail and he has since waived his preliminary hearing. He has two shoplifting convictions dating back to 2011.
In another city police case, Bernard Keith Dennis, 59, of 1912 W. Third St., has been charged with felony shoplifting and receiving stolen property after he allegedly stole $33 worth of merchandise from Wegmans, 201 William St., on March 17, court records stated. Initially jailed by Frey, he has since been released on $7,500 bail.
