Impaired South Williamsport driver’s foot nearly amputated in crash

After crashing his motorcycle into the back of a car at a high rate of speed in the 100 block of Maynard Street about 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9, impaired South Williamsport resident Travis Eugene Allen just kept on going even though his right foot was nearly severed by the collision, according to a city police affidavit. Allen, 34, fled to his home at 1709 Riverside Drive to where borough police and an ambulance were soon dispatched for “a medical emergency,” the affidavit stated.

When they arrived, police found Allen bleeding profusely from his right ankle, and “a tourniquet was applied due to the nature of the injury in order to control the bleeding,” court records stated. Police found Allen’s motorcycle at the back of the house. “Blood was discovered on the right side of the cycle in the area where Allen’s injury (occurred), and there was a trail of blood from the cycle to Allen’s kitchen,” police said in the affidavit. Allen, who smelled strongly of alcohol, “admitted to consuming three beers” before the crash, police said. He was rushed to UPMC Williamsport for treatment. No one else was injured in the crash. His BAC at the time was .06 and there was also evidence of marijuana in his system, police said.

Allen has been charged with DUI of alcohol or a controlled substance, accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle (hit-run) and four summary violations, including driving with a license that was suspended due to a prior DUI offense, police said.

He has waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Christian Frey and is free on $2,500 bail.
