Five charged with felony shoplifting in separate cases

With several bags around his neck and dressed in all black while wearing a mask and a wig, Dens Marcellus, 29, of Brooklyn, New York, walked into the CVS store in Jersey Shore on Feb. 9 and "began removing over-the-counter medicines and other items from the shelves and placing them in the bags before walking out, it was alleged in a Lycoming Regional police affidavit. He soon returned to the same store on Allegheny Street with more bags and "began removing more items from the shelves," police alleged. The store suffered a $4,800 loss from the thefts, police said. In less than an hour, Marcellus walked into the CVS store on Lycoming Creek Road in Old Lycoming Township and emptied multiple shelves of merchandise before walking out the door, police alleged. The value of the merchandise taken from the township pharmacy was not provided. Marcellus was recently arraigned in York on two felony counts each of shoplifting, theft and receiving stolen property, and released on bail. "He has stolen from CVS stores across the East Coast and has numerous arrests for shoplifting," an officer wrote in a criminal complaint.
In another case, Karen Denise Morton, 58, of 156 Cookie Drive, Muncy, has been arrested for the sixth time for shoplifting, according to state police, who allege she fled with $132 worth of merchandise from the Weis Market at 1272 E. Penn St. in Muncy Township between mid-December and early March, according to an affidavit filed at the office of District Judge Kirsten Gardner. She waived her preliminary hearing and is free on $25,000 bail.
In another case, a bench warrant for the arrest of Jamia Harrod, 34, of 417 Hawthorne Ave., was expected to be filed after she failed to appear for her recent preliminary hearing before District Judge Christian Frey. She is alleged to have stolen a $4 energy drink from the Nittany Mart, 2300 W. Fourth St, on March 21, city police said. She already has two shoplifting convictions, police added.
In another case, Kirsten Bennett, 40, of 36 Catherine Drive, was charged after she stole $251 from the Weis Market at 1916 Lycoming Creek on Jan. 8, Lycoming Regional police said. She was arraigned before District Judge William Solomon and released on $15,000 bail. This was her third shoplifting arrest.
In another case, George E. Beaghley Jr., 43, of 1320 Scott St., has been charged after he stole a shopping cart full of groceries believed to be in excess of $200 from Giant, 1969 E. Third St., on July 7, 2022, state police alleged in court papers at the office of District Judge Gary Whiteman. Beaghley, who remains jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail, has since waived his preliminary hearing.
