Roommates Shadia Bates-Davis and Victoria Crawford, both 33, were arrested and jailed after city police were dispatched to their six-floor apartment at the William Hepburn Apartments, 400 Lycoming St., for the third time in one day because of a disturbance, according to an affidavit.
The two were each given warnings following the first and second incidents on May 12 to stop causing a commotion that was upsetting their neighbors, police said. When officers were called to the high-rise for the third time later that night, they spoke with neighbors outside the building who told them they were "tired of hearing the non-stop screaming and fighting" coming from the couple's apartment, it was stated in the court document.
As officers made their way to the apartment down a hallway, they could hear the two women screaming at one another, police said.
"Multiple injuries were on Crawford's face, ranging from a swollen eye to scratches across the right side of her face," it was stated in the affidavit. Police termed the women's relationship "volatile." Both women were charged with disorderly conduct while Bates-Davis faces an additional misdemeanor charge of simple assault. The two were arraigned before District Judge William Solomon and initially incarcerated, but Bates-Davis has since been on $7,500 bail while Crawford is free on $2,500 bail.
