Theft, assault among charges lodged in separate cases brought to Lycoming County district judges

Northumberland County man charged with felony theft

After stealing Scott Huntington’s Subaru Legacy on Walnut Street in Jersey Shore on the night of April 10, Wayne David Thompson drove to a local store, bought some beer and then crashed the car on a Route 220 exit ramp before abandoning the demolished car in the 300 block of North Main Street in the borough, Lycoming Regional police alleged.

Surveillance video also captures Thompson, 38, of Shamokin, removing a bag of tools from a pickup truck parked in a lot on nearby Cherry Alley, police alleged in a court document. Charged with felony theft, theft from a motor vehicle, loitering and a summary offense, Thompson has since waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Denise Dieter and is free on $25,000 bail.

Woman arrested following disturbance

Barbara Bankes, 58, of 38 Bower St., apartment 1110, Montgomery, was locked up on charges following a disturbance in the K-Bar, 523 E, Third St., about 9:10 p.m. Saturday, according to city police. After consuming several drinks, the woman shoved another patron in the back, police were told. “She was then struck in the face and fell to the floor. After Bankes regained her footing, she began throwing pool balls at other patrons,” police alleged. “During her time near the pool table, Bankes’ blood fell on the table,” police said. Once in custody, Bankes, who was “severely intoxicated, purposely began injuring herself,” it was stated in an affidavit. Following her arraignment before District Judge Aaron Biichle on charges of simple assault, criminal mischief, trespassing, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, Bankes was initially jailed in the Lycoming County Prison, but has since been released on $5,000 bail.

Assault-related charges land man in county prison

The incident left the woman with “bruises all over her body,” police said in the court document. Police allege Markle put his hands around his wife’s neck, making it difficult for her to breathe. Following his arraignment before District Judge Kirsten Gardner, Markle was jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.
