Bail denied for Newberry man facing 70-plus counts of possessing child pornography

Earlier this year, Newberry resident Chad D. Hagemeyer sent his damaged tablet to a computer business in Bucks County to get it repaired, according to city police. Once the repairs were completed in mid-March, a technician at the firm “powered on the device” to check to make sure various functions were operating properly, police said.

The technician “immediately noticed on the home screen a young male, believed to be under 18, in a state of nudity. The business contacted (local) police” at once and turned over the tablet to a detective, who in turn gave it to a city police agent, it was stated in an affidavit.

Once a search warrant was obtained, investigators discovered 77 images of child pornography, police said. Some of the images showed minors engaged in sexual acts with one another, the court document stated. There was at least one photo that showed “a male child tied down on a bed while a masked individual” had inappropriate contact with the child’s private parts, the affidavit stated.

Hagemeyer, who turns 49 on Saturday, was arraigned late Monday morning before District Judge William Solomon on 77 felony counts of sexual abuse of children for possessing child sexual abuse material and one felony count of illegal use of a communication device.

He was automatically committed to the Lycoming County Prison after the judge denied him bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
