After hearing more than an hour of testimony from three victims and two additional commonwealth witnesses, District Judge William Solomon ruled there was sufficient evidence to hold Thomas Scott Aversa on two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of simple assault stemming from an incident on March 21 in which he brutally attacked an elderly neighbor, Lycoming Regional police alleged in court documents.
After assaulting the neighbor outside her home, Aversa, 60, of 100 Chesapeake Lane, Cogan Station, made his way to Chesapeake Lane and Route 973 West, where he turned his anger toward a delivery woman, who had stopped to help him after seeing him shirtless in the middle of the road, police alleged. Police said when an officer soon arrived on the scene, he allegedly began assaulting her, it was alleged.
At the conclusion of last week's hearing, Solomon threw out a third aggravated assault charge as well as one count each of robbery and theft, saying there was insufficient evidence presented to support them. Initially jailed in the Lycoming County Prison, Aversa has since been released on $250,000 bail.
