Muncy man jailed on felony assault charge

On the evening of Sept. 17, Muncy resident David Monroe Taylor called borough police because he was upset that the person he hired to trim a tree in his back yard at 36 Green St ended up cutting down the tree altogether and removing it, it was stated in a court document.

“Taylor was upset because the tree was used for privacy and now he was going to have to spend money to have a fence put up,” the document stated.

Taylor, 56 was so angry that he “got in the officer’s face” and threw a tape measure that struck a piece of metal that was in the yard, police said. Taylor wanted the officer to arrest the person who cut down the tree, police added. However, it was Taylor who ended up getting arrested, police said.

Twice the officer explained to him that the issue was “a civil” matter and that Taylor would have to fill out papers himself at Gardner’s office.

Taylor became “more upset and aggressive to the point” that he picked up the tape measure and threw it at the officer, striking him in the back of the left leg, it was alleged in an affidavit. “My leg felt like it had a charley horse in it,” the officer wrote in the document. Taylor was arraigned last week before Gardner on one felony count of aggravated assault and remains jailed in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
