Patient jailed on charges of allegedly assaulting two nurses at UPMC Divine Providence

While being treated in the inpatient behavioral health unit of UPMC Divine Providence Hospital, Abby Jill Peangatelli punched one nurse in the face and bit a second one who was trying to restrain her at the city medical facility at 1100 Grampian Boulevard on June 17, it was alleged in an affidavit filed by hospital police. Before the attack, Peangatelli told the medical staff, “You know, the state police told me that if I hit you, I will go to jail,” the affidavit stated. Jail was exactly where the 36-year-old Clearfield County woman ended up after she was discharged from the hospital on July 11 and arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle on charges of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. The two nurses were part of a team of five staff members who were trying to administer medication to Peangatell, which she did not want to take, police said. Peangatelli, of Woodland, was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
