South Williamsport man lands in jail after allegedly strangling ex-girlfriend

As Juan Jose Tolentino allegedly tried to strangle his ex-girlfriend in a vehicle in the 400 block of Hastings Street in South Williamsport about 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, the woman thought she was going to die, borough police said in an affidavit.
When an officer arrived on the scene, they saw “fresh red marks wrapped” around the woman’s neck. The victim said she “almost” lost consciousness, police said. “I was dizzy and had to get my focus back before I could do anything,” she told the officer.
Tolentino, 40, of 447 Hastings St, was taken into custody a couple blocks north of the scene and arraigned before District Judge William Solomon felony charges of aggravated assault and strangulation as well as recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and disorderly conduct. He was jailed in lieu of $35,000 bail.
