When state troopers arrived at a remote property in the 1400 block of Miller Road in Franklin Township on the afternoon of Feb. 12 to investigate a burglary, they found the interior of a house in "complete disarray with almost everything inside it destroyed," according to an affidavit. On the same property were two other structures; an unfinished home and a barn-style building. The structures have been empty for nearly three years when the owners moved to Tennessee, police said.
Fingerprints collected at the scene allegedly came back to Seamus M. Mondino, who was arraigned last week, two days after his 21st birthday, on felony burglary and related charges. He is now an inmate at the Lycoming County Prison.
Inside the unfinished home was a 2008 Chrysler 300 with no license plate on it, police said. There was evidence that someone made attempts to start the car "by swapping out batteries and disassembling the steering column. Appliances in this structure had been tossed "into an in-ground empty swimming pool" in the basement, police said. Inside the barn-style building was a Ford pickup truck that had been "vandalized by sexually explicit images and words" that were drawn on the windshield and vehicle, police said. It was evident that a bullet hole had been fired through a window in the ransacked home as well as the unfinished house, police said, adding that five spent casings were found on the floor of the third building.
In addition to the burglary offense, Mondino, of 63 Buck Road, Unityville, was arraigned before District Judge Gary Whiteman on other felonies, including theft, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief. He remains jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail.
