Northway Road between Four Mile and Lincoln drives in Loyalsock Township was closed after a water main ruptured about 12:40 p m. Saturday.
Fire officials estimated that at least half a million gallons of water had gushed out onto the sidewalk and street within 30 minutes.
A Williamsport Water Authority crew was en route.
While no homes have had to be evacuated, there will likely be reports of a few flooded basements, officials said.
The water has already washed out a section of the sidewalk as well as possibly compromised an area under the southbound lane, township Fire Chief Shawn Bastian said.
Avoid the area if at all possible.
