A elderly woman’s cellphone may have very well saved her life on Sunday afternoon when her car skidded off ice-covered Sulphur Springs Road in Armstrong Township and went down a 600-foot embankment, according to South Williamsport fire officials. The car caught fire, but the driver was able to get out of the vehicle on her own without getting burned. Williamsport firefighters clear smoke from Berkshire apartment

City firefighters rushed to the four-story Berkshire Apartment Building at 801 W. Fourth St. when a smoldering flower pot used to burn incense activated a smoke detector about 1:40 a.m. Thursday, according to fire officials. The flower pot was in a first-floor apartment and created a heavy smoke condition. Exhaust fans were used to clear smoke from the building.
