Charles Construction Co., in Jersey Shore, started in 1971 as a site utility contractor with just a backhoe and an operator. In 1973 the company branched out into all phases of residential site work, from foundation excavation, grading, sewer, water to underground utility installation.

The next building step was paving, which was added in 1978. Making their own asphalt just made sense so Charles purchased an asphalt plant in 1995 and produce several asphalt products. Today Charles offers a full range of construction services from site work to asphalt paving needs.

Looking back as we celebrate 50 years in business, there is a lot to be thankful for, company officials said.

Loyal employees have helped to mold the business over the years and the company is grateful for their expertise and professionalism. They also are thankful for customers who have become friends over the years.

We have always strived to satisfy our customers and it has helped to spread the word of a job well done, said Tom Charles, company president.

Asked what the highlight of the past 50 years was, Charles answered, “Over the years, it has been the acquaintances and friendships I’ve made that have made it very rewarding.”
