When one thinks of Dairy Queen, it's likely the thoughts turn immediately to ice cream.

While ice cream treats are perhaps the biggest attraction for customers, Dairy Queen should not be overlooked for its food.

"People don't realize that we serve food," Jamie Schilling, manager of the Southside Dairy Queen, said.

Lunches and dinners are served at Dairly Queen.

"It's really divided between lunches and dinners," owner and operator Bryan Winn said.

Menu items include and the very popular chicken strip basket, onion rings, burgers, fish sandwiches, popcorn shrimp basket, and more.

Go past Dairy Queen on any given night, and it's likely a string of vehicles can be waiting at the drive-in window to be served.

Winn said the location along busy Route 15 on the edge of South Williamsport is a great spot for the business.

Weekends are particularly busy for Dairy Queen, especially Saturday nights.

And as the warmer weather of the spring and summer months arrive, business picks up, with outdoor dining available.

Ice cream and dairy treats, including the popular Blizzard, which comes in a number of flavors, are big sellers, according to Winn.

Winn opened up the Dairy Queen in South Williamsport in 1997 after working for a time at the Avis Dairy Queen.

"I saw it as an opportunity," he said.

He oversees about 25 employees.

In recent years, renovations to include additional seating, have been made inside the restaurant.

"The whole kitchen was renovated," he said.

Many of the restaurant's visitors include regular customers, Winn noted.
