With the onset of cooler fall weather and the prospect of even colder temperatures to follow, the West End Christian Community Center's Clothes Closet is in need of warm outerwear, particularly coats for men, women and children of all ages and sizes.
The Clothes Closet, one of the center's ministries, sells clothing at very low cost, according to Todd Penman, director of the center. Coats can cost as little as $3, although Penman noted that if someone has a need for a coat but does not have the money, they will receive a voucher to receive a coat provided that they can find one in their size.
"No one who needs food or clothing leaves with that need not being met," he stressed.
Some of the people coming to the center are homeless, some are new arrivals to the area seeking to start over and, with the change in the weather, they are in need of coats, hats and gloves, but particularly coats, Penman said.
The Clothes Closet relies on donations for all their supplies, so that at any given time they may not have a variety of sizes. They have a particular need for warm winter clothing for children, although all sizes of women's clothing are also needed.
Donations can be taken to the Center, 901 Diamond St., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays or 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays.
