St. Mark’s youth tackling hunger in annual Souper Bowl

The youth of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Williamsport, are tackling hunger in the community by participating in the 30th annual Souper Bowl of Caring.

Cans of soup and gifts will be collected from those attending worship services Sunday.

Soup will be delivered to the United Churches food pantry for distribution to community members who are food insecure.

Donations will be given to Shepherd of the Streets to assist with its many ministries in the Williamsport community.

Souper Bowl of Caring is a youth-led movement based in Houston, Texas, that has garnered support from schools, churches, businesses and NFL teams nationwide in the fight against hunger.

Last year, the organization reported nearly 5,000 groups collected over $9.6 million in financial and food donations for hunger-relief charities across the country.

St. Mark’s was founded in 1852 as the first English-speaking Lutheran church in Williamsport and is located at the foot of the Market Street bridge.

The Holy Eucharist is celebrated at 4 p.m. Saturdays and 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Sunday Church School for all ages is held at 9:15 a.m.
