The Christian Social Concerns Committee of the United Churches of Lycoming County will host an event at the Yasui Peace Tower at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, to mark the Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, bombings of 1945.
The tower, at the corner of Pine Street and Little League Boulevard in the city, was commissioned by Dr. Robert S. Yasui in the mid-1980s, according to a press release from UCLC. He hoped it would provide a place of mediation for the community, the release said.
The plaque on the tower reads, "Dedicated…to the humanity that makes us all one."
