The Rev. Brian D. Vasey, pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in the city, recently marked the 35th anniversary of his ordination to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament. Members of his congregation celebrated with worship on June 13.
Presiding and preaching the service was the Rev. Barbara J. Collins, bishop of the Upper Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Both she and Linda J. Rosini, church council president, made presentations to Vasey.
Vasey, a Geneseo, New York, native, has pastored at St. Mark's since November 2019. Prior, he served St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mifflinville.
A graduate of Lycoming College, Vasey worshiped at St. Mark's as a student when the Rev. Frederick G. H. Hasskarl was pastor. Vasey went on to earn his Master of Divinity degree from Drew Theological School at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey.
He was ordained in 1986 and has served United Methodist congregations in Catawissa, Nescopeck, Clearfield, York, Lewisburg and Bellefonte.
Vasey is married to the former Joanne D. Masser, who serves as organist and music coordinator at Christ Lutheran Church in Lewisburg. They have two children, Brandy (Stephen) Aguirre and Timothy Vasey, and a grandchild. His family was in attendance at his anniversary celebration, during which Timothy provided a special music selection.
