Re-Creation, an entertainment group created in 1976 by Hugh Brooks, a former instructor at Penn State, will give a free concert at 7 p.m. July 18 at New Covenant United Church of Christ, 202 E. Third St., in the city. A good-will offering will be accepted.
This year's program, "Joyful," offers a "dynamic vocal blend with a lively, yet sensitive state-of-the-art sound…fun elements and congregational participation," according to a newsletter.
Brooks formed Re-Creation out of concern for institutions with limited opportunities to benefit from the therapeutic value of live, professional entertainment. Re-Creation primarily serves state centers, prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, and Veterans Affairs medical centers.
Re-Creation provides more than 300 shows annually in all 50 states. It's Sacred Program is designed as a worship service, featuring both traditional and contemporary styles, sing-a-long hymns and children's songs, dramatic works and original music.
