White Hall Baptist Church, Danville, welcomes new pastor

The Rev. John McCarty has joined White Hall Baptist Church as its new pastor, with an installation service held July 25.

McCarty began ministry at White Hall Baptist Church, Danville, in late November 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was raised in Delaware, then graduated from Shippensburg University in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree and earned a Master of Divinity from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1989.

He is 57 years old and has been married to his wife, Margie, for 32 years. They are the proud parents of 2 sons, Zachary, 28, and Benjamin, 25. Margie is also a pastor, serving two United Methodist Conference churches in the Bloomsburg area.

This is McCarty’s second call to White Hall Baptist Church. He first served 20 years ago, from 1996 to 2000.

White Hall Baptist is a member of the Pennsylvania/Delaware Region of the American Baptist Churches of USA.

• He enjoys cooking and baking (especially bread) and is a part-time cook at Marley’s in Bloomsburg

• He enjoys walks in the woods and identifying various plants and trees

• He enjoys reading, drawing and other creative outlets

• He is a coffee drinker

• He is a serious movie buff and a bit of a video gamer

• He has a good sense of humor

• He enjoys traveling with Margie and exploring new restaurants

• He loves his family, including their cat, Mojo

McCarty specializes in meeting the needs of small congregations and understands the challenges of helping a small congregation to reach out into the community.

He feels his role as pastor is to help people communicate the love of Christ in relevant ways that can impact the lives of others.

He has enabled a small country church to provide safe ministry alternatives such as FM transmitter parking lot services, online Zoom services and Facebook, as well as in-person visitation during times of need.

Worship services at White Hall Baptist Church, 699 White Hall Road, Danville, are held at 9 a.m. every Sunday, with Sunday School at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome.

Services include in-person, parking lot at FM 87.7, and Zoom. Service videos are later posted on Facebook.
