Shiloh Baptist, Ebenezer Baptist and Love Unlimited Ministries will be uniting together for a community watch service on Dec. 31. Shiloh Baptist will be hosting the service at 433 Walnut St. from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. with a meal provided in the church basement.
Rev. R.L. Clayton, senior pastor of Shiloh Baptist, said the plans for the event started when "I had a meeting two weekends ago with the Love Unlimited pastor and asked him "What are you doing New Years Eve?' He said 'Nothing.' So I suggested we have a service together here at Shiloh. Then the pastor from Ebenezer joined the meeting so we asked what they had planned and invited them to join the event."
"When I came to Williamsport 20 years ago I tried to unite the churches and it fell through," Prophet Isaac Evans, senior pastor of Love Unlimited Ministries said. "I sat down with Pastor Clayton and he brought the idea forward which is now fulfilling a mission I had when I came here."
Service attendees can expect "a great service with multiple messages, lots of prayer and full of singing."
"We'll be shouting and praising as the New Year comes in from 2023 to 2024. A night with lots of singing, praying and preaching," Rev. Clayton said.
"People of god can know people of god without being separated by churches." Prophet Evans said. "Churches have been locked inside the four walls of the building without ever going out into the world. With no youth there is a dying generation and the youth isn't inside the four walls. We have to go out and meet them where they are."
"We are all one kingdom in the kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven moving together as one organism all throughout the city of Williamsport," Prophet Evans said.
"This isn't just for the members of Shiloh Baptist, or the members of Love Unlimited or Ebenezer Baptist, but for the whole Williamsport Family. It's churches coming together and uniting," Rev. Clayton said.
