Local residents Dr. Jason Shu, M.D. and Dr. Grace Shu, M.D.,Ph.D. have been reflecting on this year’s Little League Baseball World Series. Both have long played key roles in the good relationship between Chinese Taipei (also known as Taiwan) and Williamsport. Chinese Taipei won the LLWS championship game on August 24, its first time since 1996, almost three decades ago.
“It’s been a wonderful World Series,” said Dr. Grace Shu, who serves as U.S. Public Health Service senior adviser, chairwoman for U.S. Asian American Voters Coalition, Lycoming County’s chief adviser for International Affairs and previously served as vice president for International Affairs for the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.
“We lived and have been here decades, and Little League Baseball has been a wonderful and consistent part of our lives,” Dr. Jason Shu, who serves for Council on Graduate Medical Education, said. “Especially Little League was a great way to introduce Americans and Pennsylvanians to Taiwan, its people, and its culture. We think the future will continue to be bright for both Williamsport and Little League Baseball World Series.”
