Haidyn’s Hen Pen family-run, with variety of treats

PHOTO PROVIDED Haidyn’s Hen Pen is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

Haidyn’s Hen Pen is a small, family-run farm stand-style shed that offers a variety of homemade goodies.

Yummy and healthy sourdough, mainly, and baked goods, thoughtfully-sourced, and using locally inspired products.

“What started as a simple egg stand has grown into a space which offers baked goods, handmade items, and carefully-selected products that are clean, natural, and often sourced from small businesses locally and across the USA,” said Hannah Chrisenberry, owner, who helps guide her 5-year-old daughter, Haidyn, at what’s become popularized locally as the “Hen Pen.”

The “Hen Pen,” itself, is a tiny shed on the family’s property, which was converted into a welcoming spot for the whole Jersey Shore area to stop, shop, and support this local small business.

Located on the family’s property in the village of Antes Fort, the Hen Pen is conveniently located for Jersey Shore and area residents, and just a 20-minute drive from Williamsport.

Days of operation are Monday through Sunday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“I’m open every day,” Chrisenberry said. “This business was inspired by a mix of my love for homesteading, providing fresh food and wanting to teach our daughters valuable life skills at a young age,” Chrisenberry said.

It started out with Haidyn selling eggs and quickly turned into something more as the family realized how much the community appreciated the local, homemade, and thoughtfully-chosen products.

“It’s been a dream of mine for a while, and bringing Haidyn, and my older girls into it, made it even more meaningful,” Chrisenberry said.

That being said, the Hen Pen is strictly family-run.

“I manage the day-to-day operations, product sourcing, and baking, while Haidyn is very much a part of the process – helping stock, collecting the eggs while dropping a few on her way back to the house from the coop,” she said.

“We operate on a self-serve basis, so customers can stop by at their convenience,” she added. “We do our best to keep it stocked regularly, and updates are always shared on our Facebook page,” she said, adding there is a website www.haidynshenpen.com) when new items are added.

Hours of the Hen Pen are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

As for Haidyn, “she is very creative, curious, and a feral child,” said her mom.

“She loves being involved, especially when it comes to helping in the shed and baking,” Chrisenberry said.

Naming the business after her isn’t just for fun but rather an extension of her true love.

Her love for chickens started this, mom said, and it’s something later she can be proud of as “we continue to grow for our family business.”

Haidyn is involved in known what’s being ordered at times and LOVES Tallow products, which are becoming more popular as individuals try them and recognize their healthy aspects.

The Hen Pen was built with the help of family and friends.

“It was truly a hands-on project that turned into something really special,” Chrisenberry said. “A lot of time, effort, and love went into creating a space that reflects what we want this business to be.”

Haidyn’s classmates know about the “shed,” which they call it.

Chrisenberry offered nothing but praise about membership in the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.

“Becoming a member has helped us feel more connected to the local business community,” she said. She added: “It’s given us more exposure, opportunities to network, and a chance to continue growing and learning from other small business owners in the area.”

Overall, the support from the whole community has been incredible.

“We’ve received so many kind messages and encouragement from people who love what we’re doing,”she said.

“Customers appreciate the quality of the products and the idea behind the business, especially it being centered around family.”
