Lineup for 72nd Mummers’ Parade, set for Saturday announced
PHOTO PROVIDED On this year’s Mummers’ Court are Isabelle Blosser, left, the daughter of Susan Albert and Terrance Blosser; Mummers’ Queen Maya Dake, center, the daughter of Michael Dake, Liz Dake-Threeton and stepfather Lawson Threeton; Alyssa Sauers, the daughter of Jason and Kimberly Sauers.
Final preparations are underway for the 72nd annual Mummers’ Parade in South Williamsport. The parade steps off at 2 p.m. Saturday to a day that is expected to be ideal for a fall parade — in the low 70s and mostly sunny.
The parade typically has about 100 entries and has been in the works for months.
This year, a few of the groups that have become synonymous with the parade are returning including the Nittany Highland Pipe Band, the Woodlands String Band, of Philadelphia, and Spook Haven, Dori Rankinen, parade organizer, said.
There will also be many of the county’s marching bands, classic cars, a horse-drawn hearse and corporate sponsors.
“We’d like to thank the Dairy Queen in South Side, Party City and Hilsher Graphics for joining our team of sponsors,” Rankinen said.
New this year are three area food trucks, added because of their growing popularity in the area.
“They’ve also agreed to donate 20 percent of their profits to the parade committee to prepare for next year,” Rankinen said.
South Williamsport will host another Fall parade on Nov. 11, following the same route as the Mummers’ Parade but honoring veterans.
The parade rotates locations and returns to the borough every five years.
It will feature many of the same marching bands and have all sorts of entertainment, Rankinen said.
