Muncy Township plans hearing on possibly dropping road

By Mike Maneval 2 min read

PENNSDALE -- Muncy Township Supervisors expect to see improvements to a bridge and to roads soon -- but not one road.

The supervisors are scheduling a public hearing for 6:30 p.m., Nov. 14, to discuss possibly "abandoning" or ceding responsibility for Gatz Road.

"It's an unsigned, unpaved, unmaintained road," Supervisor Tom Schaech said.

The supervisors also said at their Wednesday meeting that they are waiting on a permit from the state Department of Environmental Protection to enter Carpenters Run and pile large rocks to shore up the Griggs Road Bridge near Quaker Church Road.

"We should have that very shortly," Schaech said.

The bridge is one of two in the township slated for eventual replacement under Lycoming County's bridge replacement program.

In other matters regarding roads and road maintenance, the stripes on Village and Industrial Park roads soon will be repainted and construction of a salt and cinder shed has started. The foundation and drainage system for the shed are in place and the township is waiting for delivery of wall materials. The township also has dealt with breakdowns of streets and roads equipment in recent weeks.

"We were able to repair all of those in-house," Schaech said.

Edie Gilbert, one of the township's three elected auditors, is stepping down as she plans on moving out of the township with her family. The supervisors appointed Missy Doyle to complete the term. Schaech thanked Gilbert for her service and Doyle for her future service.

Supervisors unanimously approved changing the zoning for a site on Generations Drive near the YMCA from suburban-mixed to light industrial. Thru Tube Solutions, which makes pipes and tubing for the gas industry, requested the change. The township's planning commission recommended the measure.

In other business, township supervisors:

• approved a sewage facility module for Wolf Run Veterinary Clinic. While the clinic is connected to public sewer system, the business needs the module's approval to comply with state regulations.

• had two permits sought in the past month. A.C. Moore wants to erect a storage unit for Christmas merchandise and Geisinger wants to place a sign along Interstate 180.
