Commissioners to consider levee work contract

Lycoming County commissioners are expected to take action this week on an agreement connected to the Susquehanna River levee.

Chelsea Blair, county hazard mitigation planner, told the commissioners at their Tuesday meeting that the $273,531 contract with Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc. covers relief well work,

Commissioner Tony Mussare commented that the cost seemed a bit high.

“I think these companies are taking advantage of us,” he said.

Blair explained that the company is one of the few that does such specialized work.

In other matters, commissioners approved an amendment to an agreement with Kourt Security Partners LLC for the courthouse control security system and a contract with Bimbo Bakeries for bread products on an as-needed basis.

Vicki Smedley, of Jersey Shore, approached the commissioners about presenting a slide show connected to environmental action.

On Thursday, commissioners will consider several contracts connected to the county landfill including with West Physics Consulting LLC for the radiation monitoring program and Highway Equipment & Supply Co. Inc. for service and repairs.

Also on the agenda is a request to hire a coordinator/GIS specialist for the Department of Public Service at a salary of $41,118 and an assistant county detective at $23.09 per hour.
