Four months after 66-year-old John Yarosz was struck and killed by an SUV at West Fourth and Williams streets while in his motorized wheelchair, the identity of the driver still remains a mystery.
Both city police and the Lycoming County District Attorney Office have declined to release the driver's name.
"The district attorney must make a decision on what crimes have been committed, if any, and then put out a statement," Police Chief Damon Hagan said in a text message to the Sun-Gazette.
"Since it is a criminal investigation, we can't release or confirm anything until that decision is made," Hagan said.
A witness told WNEP that Yarosz, of the city, was crossing the street on the afternoon of Oct. 19 when he was hit by the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
When a news reporter visited District Attorney Ryan Gardner's office Tuesday to get a comment, he was told that the investigation was ongoing and that no other information will be released.
"We're very aware of the situation," a secretary in the office told the reporter.
