City recreation commission has taken a look at the repairable conditions of Lose and Youngs Woods parks.
Lose Park, which is along Memorial Avenue, and Youngs Woods, on Railway Street, both need some painting, restored basketball hoops and backboards and lighting, the commission said Monday night.
An open grass lot near the courts at Lose Park might be able to have a gazebo added, should money be available, according to the group discussion.
In other discussion, the group helped to work with West Branch Pride to have the city's first Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual and Queer festival in Brandon Park tentatively on Sept. 19. A rain out date would be the following weekend, Sept. 26, said Kayla Drummond, acting recreation coordinator.
The commission also is working with the department to bring about another StrEAT Food Festival in June at Bowman Field parking lot, Homemade Days, an arts and crafts event at Bowman Field, also in June.
Mayor Derek Slaughter continues to review applications for a full-time recreation coordinator, Drummond said.
