Mountain Top Distillery, 5451 Route 654, will donate bottles of hand sanitizer made at the distillery during the COVID-19 outbreak.
"Amidst the current outbreak there has been a demand for it," Sarah Kudlack, owner, said. "Pretty much everyone is out of it. We have one of the main ingredients -- this is an opportunity."
She said that her distillery, also co-owned by her husband since March of 2018, is following the World Health Organization guide to producing the sanitizer and that the hand sanitizer will be made with ethanol, glycerol, hydrogen peroxide and water.
Kudlack added that the alcohol that will be added is an agent that works with hydrogen peroxide to reach 99 percent of germs killed, like the hand sanitizer available in stores.
Kudlack was hoping to have the hand sanitizer ready and available as soon as possible, though that depends on when some ingredients and packaging arrive.
"When all of this is going down, there is a shortage of everything," she said. "We are hoping to have them available at the end of this week."
Each bottle will be four ounces and Kudlack is predicting that the distillery will make around 3,000 bottles for its first production run.
The sanitizer itself is free to those who have contacted the distillery by email. Locals can go on the website to read more and also contact Kudlack for bottles for their business or for personal needs.
Kudlack just asks that whoever is interested in the hand sanitizer to please provide the business a donation.
During this time, a smaller business will need funds to keep employees working to create the sanitizer and also to keep business operations stable.
"How donations come in will determine if we can do a second batch or not," she added.
In addition to that, the distillery will still be doing delivery and pick-ups for its regular merchandise.
