A number of facilities began to close for the immediate future Monday as the state government expanded the limitations on public interaction.
Lycoming County
Visitors Information Center and Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce
The Lycoming County Visitors Information Center will be closed through March 30. Additionally upcoming Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce events including Muncy Bank and Trust Co.'s ribbon cutting and open house, the Lycoming College PM Exchange, Final 3 and North Central Sight Services PM Exchange have been postponed, according to a news release.
Williamsport Water and Sewer
The Williamsport Water and Sanitary Authorities are temporarily closing the in-person customer service window. A news release from the authorities said bills can be paid by money order or check and either mailed or placed in the drop box at the offices at 253 W. Fourth St. Customers can still pay online at www.wmwa-wsa.org.
SPCA and Bunny Run
The Lycoming County SPCA is closed to the public and will only be available for essential services by appointment, according to director Victoria Stryker. The Big Twins Motorcycle Club's annual Bunny Run also has been cancelled.
Little League Museum
As information continues to become available regarding the increasing spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and out of an abundance of caution for visitors, the World of Little League Museum and the Little League Stadium Gift Shop in South Williamsport will be closed to the public starting Sunday through March 28 at least, coinciding with the 10-day period during which Pennsylvania public schools are closed, a news release from Little League International said.
Sam's Club
Starting Tuesday, Sam's Club on Lycoming Mall Circle is shifting all club opening hours from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
"This is to ensure our associates have ample time to restock, clean and sanitize each club, and to provide you the best possible experience," a news release from Sam's Club said. ""It's an unprecedented time for all of us and we know we have had out-of-stock items in our clubs. We continue to work around the clock to restock those items as we know it's so important to get you and your families the things you came in for. That's why we may also periodically limit the quantity on certain items per member -- to ensure more people have access to the products they need."
The store's Sunday hours will remain 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and prescheduled pickup orders will still be available for starting at 7 a.m.
Gun rights seminar
State Reps. Garth Everett, R-Pennsdale, and Jeff Wheeland, R-Loyalsock Township, have canceled their Gun Law Seminar until further notice due to public health concerns and guidelines concerning the coronavirus, also referred to as COVID-19, according to a news release.
The event had been scheduled for Thursday, March 26 at the Clinton Township Fire Hall.
"Due to the public health guidelines regarding the coronavirus, we think it best to limit all social events for the time being," said Everett, according to the news release. "We look forward to hosting this event hopefully sometime later this season."
Catholic Masses
Effectively immediately, and until further notice, Bishop Joseph C. Bambera announced the suspension of Masses open to the public and all public gatherings in all diocesan parishes, worship sites, college campuses, chapels and health care facilities in the eleven counties of the Diocese of Scranton.
"It deeply saddens me to take this temporary action, knowing the depth of the faith of people in the Diocese of Scranton and their desire to celebrate the Holy Eucharist on a regular basis," Bambera said, according to a news release from the diocese. "But with each passing day, the number of people impacted by the coronavirus continues to grow locally and it is clear that we, as a faith community, must do our part in order to help slow the spread of this disease."
Despite the suspension of all public Masses, churches will, however, remain open daily for individual private prayer. The timeframe for each parish is to be determined by its pastor or parish life coordinator, the news release said.
Scheduled sacramental celebrations, such as weddings, baptisms and funerals, will be permitted but attendance will be limited to immediate family members and follow any guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center and Green Free Library
The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center and Green Free Library closed Sunday and will remain closed through March 29. All programs and group activities are canceled at this time, a news release said.
Bloomsburg University
Bloomsburg University will deliver academic courses online for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester, beginning March 23. According to a news release, the school will allow students to continue to retrieve belongings from residence halls and academic buildings this week, through March 21, with the knowledge that they should remove all their belongings. Students will have an opportunity to move out at a later date if they choose not to do so this week.
