Eight brush fires occurred throughout the day Monday.

At around 1:19 p.m. a major fire engulfed four acres of a Christmas tree farm at 613 Stony Batter Road in Moreland Township according to Lairdsville Fire Chief Glen Temple.

He also added that there was a possibility of some structures being endangered, though he was uncertain of how many or what buildings were endangered.

“It burned really hot and as high as 15 feet in the air,” he said.

The fire was put out around 3:48 p.m.

Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department Lieutenant, Casey Swank, added that the fire was largely involved and there was a lot of mop up after the incident.

“With a sunny day and light breeze the ground is dry,” he said. “The foliage litter is still dry and with the low humidity makes a perfect storm for these fires to ignite and take off.”

Earlier, around 12:39 p.m., the first brush fire, located at 51 Sherwood Lane in Susquehanna Township on Monday. Shortly after around 12:59 p.m. the brush fire was controlled and out thanks to Station 7 Nesbit Fire Department and Station 8 DuBoistown Fire and EMS.

Another fire emerged at the 1800 block of High Street in Loyalsock around 2:56 p.m. where Station 1 Williamsport Bureau of Fire, Station 14 Old Lycoming Township Fire Company, Station 18 Loyalsock Township Volunteer Fire Company, Station 20 Montoursville Fire Department, Station 22 Eldred Township Volunteer Fire Company and Station 5 South Williamsport Fire Department assisted with the incident.

The fire was put out at 3:39 p.m.

Other fires included:

•1000 block Exchange Road in Moreland Township at 2:49 p.m. put out at 2:45 p.m.

•500 block Middle Road in Limestone Township at 3:53 p.m. and put out at 4:07 p.m.

•100 Block of Pine Run Road in Wolf Township at 3:53 p.m. was out immediately

•2000 block of State Holm Road in Clinton Township at 5:10 p.m. and put out at 5:48 p.m.

•900 block of Factory Road in Hepburn Township at 6:58 p.m. and put out at 7:16 p.m.
