WASD to offer automotive course to adults

Adult auto technicians will now have an opportunity to update their skills following approval by Williamsport School District board Tuesday of Andrew Leigey, automotive technology teacher at the high school, to teach the course.

The course, which relates to state vehicle safety inspections, will be offered during even hours in May. The fee charged will cover the expenses of the teacher and course materials.

The board agreed to suspend provisions of any board policies that would prohibit conducting executive session or other matters that do not require public access by remote communications.

A finance item which will appear on the agenda for the next official meeting for retroactive approval authorized the superintendent or assistant superintendent to enter into contracts or agreements that will allow the district to maintain continuous operations, including but not limited to Memoranda of Understanding with representatives of associations involved with collective bargaining agreements.

Under personnel, the board accepted the resignations of Shyanne L. Camacho, Monica B. Gillespie and Sandra J. Smith.

They also hired the following staff:

• Diana DeVaughn, full-time paraprofessional/intervention specialist at Lycoming Valley Intermediate School at a rate of $22,753.

• Kristiana Ferraro, volunteer, cheerleading.

• Chad Eberhart, volunteer, boys’ track and field.

• Mara Laird, middle school girls’ track and field, at a rate of $1,600.

• Substitute food service workers Corrin A. Baylis and Shyanne L. Camacho, at a rate of $9.00 per hour.

• Bana C. Sidleck, substitute administrative support aide at a rate of $9.00 per hour.

The board approved a software lease agreement for the Tax Office with Business Information Group, Inc. at a cost of $26,784 for a one year period beginning April 1.

They also authorized the district’s participation in the Cooperative Purchasing Program of the Keystone Purchasing Network to purchase athletic supplies for the middle and high schools. Total amount of awards to various companies is $10,354.

The district will participate in the same program to purchase custodial supplies to replenish warehouse stock.
