What it means here: Local impacts and cancellations

Landfill, transfer station closed

In adherence to guidelines from Gov. Wolf, Lycoming County Resource Management Services will no longer accept private transactions from residents.

Residents must use a licensed hauler to dispose of waste until further notice.

This change includes the Lycoming County Landfill on Alexander Drive in Montgomery and the Lycoming Transfer Station, 1475 W. Third St., Williamsport. The weight masters at the waste scales will not accept cash, credit cards or check transactions.

Census count

deadline delayed

The U.S. Census Bureau is delaying the deadline for counting everyone in the U.S. by two weeks because of the spreading novel coronavirus, officials said Friday.

The 2020 census had been scheduled to stop at the end of July, but the deadline has now been extended to mid-August, said Tim Olson, an associate director for field operations at the bureau.

Most U.S. residents started being able to respond to the 2020 census last week when the bureau’s website went live and people started receiving notices to participate in the mail. As of Friday, 18.6 million households had answered the questionnaire, primarily online, said Al Fontenot, the bureau’s associate director for decennial programs.

physician and specialty

offices condensing

In an effort to continue caring for patients, mitigating unnecessary social contact and conserving resources, the Evangelical Medical Services Organization has started the process of condensing outpatient offices.

For simplicity and customer service, the phones at all primary and specialty care offices will be staffed Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

Providers will see patients with acute needs, patients managing chronic conditions and pregnant women. Most well visits have been suspended by Gov. Tom Wolf’s order.

Rehabilitation Services will begin to condense services but will continue to meet acute needs for patients. Patients with emergent rehabilitation needs should call 1-877-541-1417.

Physical therapy services will continue for six weeks for post-op surgery patients, unless function allows the patient to stop sooner. All discharged patients will receive home therapy instructions to continue rehabilitation after six weeks.

Vestibular services, lymphodema therapy and speech therapy will treat acute needs only.

The following Physical Therapy offices are closed: Mt. Pleasant Mills; Plaza 15, Lewisburg; Meadow Green, Mifflinburg; Selinsgrove, Route 522. All other locations will operate on limited hours based on acute patient needs.

The Sleep Center of Evangelical is closed.

Pulmonary function testing is discontinued.

Selinsgrove Imaging Center is closed. All appointments have been moved to the hospital.
