Police were looking for a gunman who robbed the Nittany MinitMart at 1450 E. Third St. about 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The initial report described the suspect as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a scarf and white gloves.
It was believed the man had a handgun, state police were told.
There were no reports of injuries and it was unknown how much cash, if any, was stolen.
Customers were turned away as the business was closed and locked immediately after the holdup.
City police were assisting state police since the business is just east of the city-township line.
Officers were checking the area of Almond Street and Maxwell Place, several blocks west of the robbery, for any sign of the suspect.
