Lycoming County Water and Sewer customers who have failed to pay their bills can rest assured they won't lose utility services.
The Water and Sewer Authority at its meeting this week granted customers relief from shut-offs and also waived penalties they might otherwise receive for non-payments for the May billing period.
Authority Director Christine Weigle noted that while COVID-19 has certainly impacted the local economy, most customers have been good about paying their bills.
"Payments are coming in at a relatively normal pace," she said. "We are pleased by that because we didn't know what to expect."
The non-penalty, no-shut-off resolution approved by the board will be reviewed next month.
Weigle noted that the Water and Sewer office building remains closed for public business. In the meantime, employees will return to their normal working schedules next week.
No employees have been furloughed, she noted.
In other matters, the authority approved a professional service agreement with Meiser & Earl Inc. for well testing work. The estimated cost for the project is $102,500.
A development plan for a water and sewer extension with the Geisinger hospital facility was approved.
The authority also approved a recent audit conducted by Baker Tilly.
It was reported that the authority ended the past year with $45 million in assets and debt of $34.7 million.
