Though they are considering it, the Lycoming County commissioners have not voted yet on a resolution to extend the county property tax deadline from June 30 to Aug. 31, as was reported in Thursday's edition.
The issue is on the agenda for the commissioners meeting next Tuesday, May 19, when a formal vote to extend the Face Period for county taxes until Aug. 31 is planned, according to Commissioner Scott Metzger.
The county also handles tax collections for 51 municipalities. As such, the county is awaiting feedback from those municipalities before voting, Metzger said Thursday.
The commissioners sent letters to those municipalities to gather their input on the issue in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, but they are still getting feedback, he said.
"We will consider it," he said.
Additionally, county government offices and the Courthouse are generally closed to the public. Information in Saturday's edition was incorrect. Visitors are only allowed by appointment or for a scheduled court proceeding.
As for all other county facilities, visitors are allowed by appointment only as deemed by the row officer or the department's director.
District Magistrates will begin scheduled proceedings on Monday and by appointment only.
Anyone requiring access to any county office is to call ahead or go online to that office where service is required to obtain directions for scheduling an appointment.
It is highly encouraged that follow-on or additional services from other supporting offices be identified and scheduled at the same time.
The county recommends visitors ask, "Where else might I have to go when I am finished with your office?"
The commissioner's next virtual public meeting will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
