Tioga county shooting suspect still at large
TIOGA — An autopsy was schedule today for Jahrell Jenkins, a 20-year-old Elmira, New York, man who was shot to death early Sunday morning in the parking lot of Fred’s Woodshed on Route 287 in Tioga Township, according to Tioga County Coroner James Daugherty.
Jenkins came to the gentlemen’s club with two friends from Elmira to celebrate his birthday, which was earlier in the week, according to investigators.
Daugherty said Jenkins was rushed by ambulance to the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, now UPMC, with a single gunshot wound to the upper body.
A medical helicopter had been sent to the hospital with plans to send him to a trauma center, but he died in the emergency room at 5:40 a.m., Daugherty said. The medical staff worked on him for quite a while, he added.
State police at Mansfield are leading the investigation into the homicide. Investigators did not say if they knew what sparked the shooting.
However, WETM, the NBC affiliate in Elmira, reported on their website that “a fight started inside the strip club and then proceeded outside where the shooting” occurred.
The autopsy will be conducted at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Daugherty said.
Anyone with information concerning the shooting is asked to call the state police Mansfield barracks at 570-662-2151.
