UPMC relocates COVID-19 test collection site to Montoursville
UPMC Susquehanna’s COVID-19 outpatient testing collection site has been relocated to UPMC’s outpatient lab located at 900 Plaza Drive in Montoursville, effective Monday according to Rutul Dalal, MD, infectious diseases medical director.
The collection site will help UPMC ramp up their testing abilities, providing results in a quicker time frame, help pre-procedural testing and more.
“We want to be prepared for the worst case scenario,” Dalal said.
For COVID-19 testing specifically, there is a different entrance and only those who have been referred by a physician or doctor can be tested at this site, Dalal said.
This will help get results back fast for patients in the hospital, patients who are getting tested for pre-procedural purposes or are symptomatic.
Dalal said this in house testing can even have results back in as short as a couple of hours.
“Rest assured, we are using the utmost level of profession,” he said. “We are working at 100 percent capacity. We are completely safe.”
He added that the previous location, at 609 Brandon Ave., was not temperature controlled and served as a “makeshift” collection site.
This location will not only be convenient for patients already visiting the lab, but will also have air conditioning units during the summer months, keeping temperatures controlled.
This site will also help reduce stress on the system for testing as well as reduce anxiety of patients who need to be tested as they will not be in close contact with the hospital.
“It is efficient,” Dalal said.
Next week, there will be even more news.
UPMC is also working on another platform to get testing results out faster, to ramp up testing to enhance efficiency and to provide the best for their patients.
“It is still a work in progress,” Dalal said.
