County Commissioners vote to fund election modernization
Locally elected and appointed officials voted on the following matters in the past two weeks:
Federal
• The Senate voted 79-16 on the confirmation of Mark Wesley Menezes, of Virginia, to be Deputy Secretary of Energy. U.S. Sens. Robert Casey, D-Scranton, and Pat Toomey, R-Zionsville, voted yes.
• The House was out of session.
State
• The Senate was out of session.
• The House was out of session.
County
• Lycoming County commissioners voted in favor of a $542,531 state grant to fund election modernization and security. Voting yes were Commissioners Rick Mirabito, Scott Metzger and Tony Mussare.
• Lycoming County commissioners approved an agreement with Pennsylvania College of Technology for new signage at the White Deer Golf Course entrance. Voting yes were Commissioners Rick Mirabito, Scott Metzger and Tony Mussare.
• The Lycoming County Water & Sewer Authority approved a sewer extension for development along Oak Lane in Fairfield Township.
Municipal
• City Council approved 7-0 on first reading an ordinance creating an accessibility advisory commission. The commission will deal with handicapped accessibility issues for the differently-abled community and include individuals from a variety of experiences on it. Voting were President Randall J. Allison, Liz Miele, Bonnie Katz, Adam Yoder, Jon Mackey, Vincent Pulizzi and Jon Mackey.
School Districts
• The Williamsport Area School Board announced that schools in the district will be opening in a hybrid alternate model at the beginning of the upcoming school year. The administration cited responses from a parent survey as a reason for choosing this plan.
