Lycoming County Water and Sewer Authority customers unable to pay their monthly bills during the months of October, November and December will not face penalties or service shutoffs.
Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, the policy of not penalizing customers in arrears has been renewed by the Authority on a monthly basis.
On Wednesday, the Authority agreed to expand the time frame for the policy.
Authority Executive Director Christine Weigle said with the ongoing pandemic the decision was made to work with customers to help them get back on track.
"It's really to give the opportunity to work in advance and protect customers as much as possible," she said. "The whole pandemic has caused issues for everyone."
Weigle said increasing numbers of customers are paying their bills.
Unpaid bills were at their highest numbers during May, June and July.
"We are seeing those numbers dip down," she said. "They have actually returned to just about normal."
Weigle made it clear that the penalties are being waived for customers, not the actual bills.
In other matters, the Authority acted on pandemic disaster relief funding, including application for a county relief block grant.
