LAIRDSVILLE – A Northumberland County man was killed Tuesday afternoon when his 2007 Chevrolet HRR and a 2021 Jeep Wrangler collided on Route 42, according to state Trooper Brian Moore.
Merl Edison, 24, of Milton, died in the crash that occurred, less than 100 feet from Route 239, in Franklin Township about 2:30 p.m., Moore said.
Edison was traveling south on Route 42 when his vehicle and a northbound Jeep driven by Gerald Carroll, 66 of Rustburg, Virginia, collided Moore said. The trooper did not say in what lane the collision occurred.
Following the collision, the Jeep overturned, landing on its passenger side, Moore said.
Edison, who was not wearing seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jerold Ross, the county's chief deputy coroner, police said.
Carroll and a passenger, Marilyn Carroll, 62, of the same address, both of whom were wearing seat belts, were treated Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and discharged, Moore said,
