McELHATTAN -- The Clinton County Correctional Facility remained COVID-free until last month.

But, as the virus began rearing its ugly head in larger numbers everywhere across the state and nation in recent weeks, the local prison has been invaded by the virus, both with inmates and staff.

But Warden Angela Hoover said the medical staff is handling the outbreak and doing whatever they can to control it.

And, she said there have been no hospitalizations.

Hoover said the first positive cases of coronavirus at the prison came on Nov. 20 when 76 inmates tested positive. She said there were 72 negative tests at that time.

This Week, Hoover said 26 of those who tested positive have completed their 14-day quarantine.

She said there are still 50 detainees in quarantine and the last is scheduled to come out of quarantine on Dec. 16.

As for staff, the warden reported 42 tests were conducted on Dec. 7, with 11 testing positive. Since then, two have been cleared

Starting at /week.
