CNN: Williamsport 19th worst for COVID-19 spread
Williamsport is one of the 20 worst communities for increases in COVID-19 infections.
CNN reported Saturday, with data from the New York Times, that Williamsport’s infection rate was the 19th highest in the country. Two other communities from Pennsylvania were ahead of Williamsport on the list. Meadville, in Crawford County between Pittsburgh and Erie, has the worst infection rate in the U.S. Somerset, between Altoona and the Maryland state line, also has a worse rate of COVID-19 spread than Williamsport.
All the other communities on CNN’s list were in Texas, Tennessee, California, Illinois, New Mexico and Indiana. Texas and Tennessee accounted for half of the 20 communities between them. Midland, Texas, and Kerrville, Texas were the second- and third-worst, respectively.
Lycoming County has seen 999 new cases since Dec. 12 with 546 of those new cases in just the past four days.
