A man who allegedly killed a woman outside a Louisa Street home in October was arrested in New York by the United States Marshal's Service.
Antwan Michael McClain, 37, of 1013 Hepburn St., was arraigned on multiple charges and denied bail Dec. 15 in relation to Jimia Alston's death. City police allege McClain fired one shot into a group of eight people outside 506 Louisa St. that killed Alston before he fled the scene.
Justin Snyder, an agent of the Williamsport Bureau of Police who handled the case, alleged in an affidavit that witnesses saw a man matching McClain's description approach the residence. McClain allegedly fired one shot into Alston's abdomen and fled the scene eastbound before police arrived.
According to the affidavit, McClain did not have a valid license to carry the firearm. He previously pled guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture or deliver on Oct. 29, 2019, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm.
Because initial attempts to find McClain were unsuccessful, the USMS Fugitive Task Force was asked to apprehend him. On Dec. 10 around noon, the task force arrested McClain without incident at a home on the 600 block of Orchard Street in Schenectady, New York.
"Crimes of violence are of the highest priority for the Fugitive Task Force. The Marshals Service and our partners recognize the importance of bringing those charged with such crimes to justice. It is my sincere hope that the arrest of this fugitive brings some sense of closure to the family," said Martin Pane, a US Marshal.
McClain is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, carrying a firearm without a license, possessing a firearm in violation of a court order, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, fleeing to avoid apprehension, recklessly endangering another person and possessing an instrument of a crime.
