Oct. 1 -- The suburban St. Louis couple who were thrust into the national spotlight after brandishing guns before Black Lives Matter protesters who marched into their gated neighborhood came to Williamsport to campaign in support of President Donald Trump. Mark and Patricia McCloskey made an appearance with GOP and Trump supporters at Basin Street, a supportive rally that was as much promotional as it was political, as they signed hats and shirts.
Oct. 8 -- The Williamsport Crosscutters have announced a free trick or treating event for children and their families -- Boomer's Drive-Thru Trick or Treat at BB&T Ballpark.
Oct. 9 -- UPMC Lock Haven Hospital reopens after it was closed for repairs due to a Sept. 10 fire in the boiler room, according to Tyler Wagner, UPMC manager of communications.
Oct. 12 -- More than 150 pumpkins arrived from Carpenter's Pumpkin Farm near Jersey Shore for the Pumpkin Rolling Contest, a big draw at Autumn at the Shore.
Oct. 16 -- Lycoming County residents are urged to register to vote as soon as possible for what many believe is the most important election in years. The voter registration deadline was Oct. 19 and the deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot was Oct. 27, according to county Voting Services Director Forrest Lehman.
Oct. 20 -- Local lawmakers are in favor of a bill vetoed by Gov. Wolf late allowing restaurants and bars to reopen at full capacity. State Reps. Clint Owlett, R-Wellsboro, Jeff Wheeland, R-Loyalsock Township, and Garth Everett, R-Muncy Township, were among legislators poised to cast votes to over-ride the governor's veto.
Oct. 23 -- City Council gave the streets and parks department permission to buy a leaf vacuum machine costing about $47,000 through use of a state recycling grant approved in February by council. The recycling equipment will be purchased by using a $200,000 grant the city was awarded from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
Oct. 29 -- The Montoursville Area School District will reopen the high school and all sports and extracurricular activities will resume following action next week in a decision by the school board. School directors decided to reverse an earlier decision made by district officials to close the building for a week and shut down all events following a report of two high school students infected by COVID-19.
Oct. 31 -- President Donald J. Trump makes a stop and gives a speech before a crowd at Williamsport Regional Airport. It was one of several reelection campaign stops for the president ahead of the Nov. 3 General Election.
