In a 4-1 vote, Loyalsock Township supervisors approved an ordinance created to have businesses have a locked box with a key to the business on their property in case of fires or burglary alarms, in the regular township meeting on Tuesday.
Bill Burdett, township manager, said that the ordinance will require businesses to have a lockbox with their key inside for only fire company usage.
This ordinance will help protect the businesses and also help save money because before this ordinance, if an alarm or a fire were to occur at a business and there was no way in, the fire company would have to break the door to get in and investigate the situation.
"It's a benefit to the commercial businesses as it can be very expensive," Burdett said. "We would rather them (fire company) have a more efficient way to enter the buildings."
Marc Sortman, supervisor chairman, voted no, while supervisors Virginia Eaton, Paul Nyman, John Bower and Richard Wheeland voted yes.
Supervisors also agreed to a public hearing, to be held at 7:15 p.m, March 23, 2021, to discuss new set-back requirements for commercial district corner lots as 17 businesses on corner lots were built when requirements were not put in place.
Burdett explained that the buildings are allowed to be there as they were built years before the set-back ordinance was created.
The supervisors are debating on whether or not the current set-back requirements would allow for property owners to get a variance or to be able to rebuild.
Virginia Eaton and Paul Nyman voted no on this hearing, while Marc Sortman, John Bower Jr. and Richard Wheeland voted yes, so that they can hear the public's comments on a new set-back requirement ordinance for these commercial corner lots.
Additionally, the supervisors also approved a lot subdivision with BHHA Real-Estate Partnership who is working with the Timothy Bryant family practice, which is located next to Faxon Lanes.
The business does not have enough parking for their employees and they have had to park at the bowling lanes.
With this lot subdivision, the business will be getting 40 additional parking spaces, some designated specifically for employee parking only. There will be signage and proper lighting for the lot as well.
