Muncy Township supervisors approved the possible addition of two restaurants to the area.
Muncy Township supervisors approved the addition of a Starbucks and Chick-fil-A to its number of restaurants in the area. The plans had previously been approved by the township's planning commission and now awaits approval from the Lycoming County Zoning Board.
The Starbucks and Chick-fil-A will operate out of separate buildings on the same property at Crossings Plaza, according to Gwen Pidcoe, the township's secretary.
In addition to the two restaurants, Pidcoe explained the Old Navy clothing store, previously located inside the Lycoming Mall, is moving to the strip mall on South Lycoming Mall Road, alongside the Target.
The store will open in the location of the old Cato and Dress Barn, combining the two separate stores into one.
"The signage permit went through, so they are getting to the tail-end of it," Pidcoe said.
Pidcoe explained many brands are opting to move stores outside shopping malls to become easier for the public to access.
With the construction of the new Geisinger medical facility in Muncy, on Route 220, Pidcoe said she is hopeful that the medical center continues to bring other businesses to the area. Pidcoe said the project is expected to be completed by fall of this year, if all goes well.
In other news, Muncy Township conducted a bid process to purchase a new tractor for the township. The supervisors awarded a $52,000 bid to Land Pro Equipment for a 2019 John Deere.
The township will next meet March 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Muncy Township municipal building.
