Lycoming County commissioners took a step Tuesday toward the establishment of a health and wellness center for county employees.
During their meeting Tuesday, they approved Integrity Health to begin the process of putting together a plan.
Integrity Health was selected following a request for proposals from firms with expertise in providing those services.
Commissioners claim having a walk-in health and wellness site located at one of the county's properties will help save health care costs while keeping employees healthier.
"We hope our employees take full advantage of this clinic," Commissioner Tony Mussare said.
Commissioner Scott Metzger said a health and wellness site can serve as a convenient means for employees to identify any health care concerns before they worsen.
"The three of us are committed to keep down health care costs," Commissioner Rick Mirabito said.
In another health care-related matter, commissioners approved USI Insurance to again provide health broker services for the county.
The county spends about $14 million annually on health care costs and USI will help save the county money, according to commissioners.
Commissioners approved a $7.45 million grant for the rental assistance program.
The program will aid renters and landlords who sustained losses resulting from COVID-19.
About 90 percent of the funding will go toward rent and utility payments through the program being administered by STEP, Inc.
"We could serve as many as 1,200 households," Jim Plankenhorn, of STEP, Inc., said.
In personnel matters, commissioners approved the hiring of Mark M. Hulyo to fill the vacant position of deputy director of Information Services at an annual salary of $65,000.
Commissioners approved W. Michael McMunn as director of Veterans Affairs at $45,428 per year and Stephanie E. Wolak as a domestic relations attorney at $51,053 per year.
Chase Kelch was appointed by commissioners to fill a vacancy on the planning commission.
In other matters, commissioners approved:
• A maintenance services agreement with Eaton Corp. for $21,356.
• A software maintenance agreement for $99,458.
• Agreements with INFOCON Corp. for printing and software maintenance services related to billing.
