East Fourth Street next on beautification work list

By Mark Maroney 1 min read

Another component of the $25 million East Third Street Old City Gateway project will go out to bid for construction companies.

East Fourth Street from Basin Street east to Penn Street is the next step on the improvement stage, according to Jon Sander, city engineer.

The work will involve streetscape improvements such as period lighting, utility work and beautifying the block to coincide with the $5.5 million Lycoming College music building.

"Details will be more apparent when the design begins," Sander said.

The music building is expected to open in fall 2022.

The street will be reconstructed much as nearby Basin Street was with the lighting and aspects designed to make it more pedestrian friendly.

An advertisement soliciting bids from construction firms will soon appear in the Sun-Gazette.
